Our Story

Who is BX?

Becky Grech, also known as BX, is a Maltese shoe designer and industrial design lecturer with a deep passion for preserving the art of shoemaking. She discovered shoemaking in 2013 and has since refined her skills through attending specialized courses, apprenticeships, and self-guided learning. Becky holds a degree in product design (2010) and a master’s degree in industrial design (2022).

Becky’s approach is rooted in innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship. She set up a fully equipped atelier where shoes are crafted from start to finish, ensuring precision and care in every pair. Known for her unique style, she specializes in handcrafted techniques such as the ‘ideal method’ (San Crispino) and the ‘glued construction method.’

Beyond creating shoes, Becky is focused on building meaningful relationships, seeing BX Design as a community driven by empathy, kindness, and collaboration. Active in the Maltese design scene, Becky’s work has earned her recognition, including the prestigious Premju Ġieħ l-Artiġjanat Malti 2023 in the Textiles category.
